What's Hot. For starters, we will begin by explaining the definition of career guidance and then discuss the difference between career guidance and career counselling. Career guidance helps individuals make a shift from the general understanding of life and work to a more specific understanding of the realistic and practical career options that are available to them.

According to Collins dictionary ,. The process of career guidance for students involves helping them to achieve their identified career options or acquiring their professional goals. The role of a career guidance expert ranges from acting as a guide to leading the entire course of action.

Take for an example, a student is pretty sure about what he wants to do, say he wants to become an Architect. So, proper career guidance would help him choose the right stream in 10 th class, what entrance exams he should prepare for, which colleges to seek admission in and what scholarships are available for him. The most interchangeable terms are Career guidance and career counselling. But can these terms be really used as an alternative? The difference between career guidance and career counselling is that on one hand guidance is assisting individuals in achieving their desired career goals which includes acting as a guide, leading and setting up a course of action, whereas career counselling, not very different from guidance, is a process which helps individuals in knowing and understanding themselves through career assessment tests or psychometric tests.

Career guidance and counselling programs are now more vital than ever; helping individuals acquire the knowledge, skills and information necessary to identify the right options and explore various career options. Then career guidance and counselling program would benefit you a lot in finding answers to your doubts. A proper career counselling would help you understand your core interest areas, aptitudes, and personalities; would empower you to distinguish between your strengths and weaknesses, and most importantly would allow you to explore multi career options before you choose the right career path.

Proper career guidance would help you in implementing and leading toward a future course of action and assist you in making informed educational and occupational choices.

Be it a school student or a working professional, anyone who takes career guidance and counselling benefits from it. Proper career planning sets up a strong foundation for your future and gives you a steady path to focus on your goals. Uncertainty or lack of clarity about various careers; little or no information about the latest trends restricts many students in reaching their maximum potential.

With the best career counselling and guidance program, individuals become well equipped with the right information in making suitable career choices. Educators in India are meticulously working to improve and achieve great results in the education sector. And, career counsellors are one of those. Career counselling in India has not been very popular over the past many years. But things are changing now. Career counsellors offer their expertise to enlighten the right career route to an individual.

When schools or institutes lack in providing proper guidance to the students, career counsellors come to the rescue. It is the utmost responsibility of a counsellor to show impactful guidance to the ones who are in need.

The most vulnerable stage in terms of career is high school. Uncertainty and lack of clarity drive most students toward making wrong career choices.

To make students more aware of the career opportunities available for them, career counselling plays an essential role. Based on the knowledge, research, and expertise level, career counsellors help the students to understand the current market scenario and job opportunities.

They are the right people to ask and explore a desired as well as a new but suitable career path. For example, most of the students are not aware of the rewarding fields like astrophysics, ethical hacking, bartending, and others. There are many strategic decisions that need to be taken about next year, about blended learning and digital infrastructure, for example.

At the Gatsby Foundation we are aware of how important the next year will be, and we are keen to support college leaders to embed careers across the institution.

Over the next few months we will be working with the AoC and others to gather intelligence and ideas from the community, to inform our work in this area. The college will provide the student with an induction checklist to be completed and signed by the employer on the first day. The college will also provide a form for the student to record their hours and obtain feedback from the employer at the end of the placement.

As mentioned already, work placement is a key component of all students study programme, therefore it is an expectation that this will be completed in a positive manner. You can help by providing some suggestions as to which employers your young person might approach to request work experience placements. Work placement should take place with an external employer, and ideally on a site that is external to the learning environment.

As it is a planned part of their study programme, paid part time work cannot be taken into consideration. Students often think their part time work does count as funded work experience but this is not the case because the main purpose is for the student to earn money, not the learning. The placement should provide them with a meaningful opportunity whereby they can experience the real demands of the working environment, independent from their peers, family, friends or tutors.

CWA also supports work experience or industry placements that are typically within 40 miles of the campus that they are attending. All students are expected to make a log of their learning whilst on placement, how this is to be completed is dependent upon the course of study the student is on.

For the majority they will be using the college work placement diary for this purpose, please do look at what they are writing in their diaries and encourage them to make sure they keep it about them whilst at placement.
